Senior DevOps engineer with a networking and systems background, working on infrastructure as code and cloud architecture.

I am a senior DevOps engineer. I came to this work from networking and systems administration rather than from software engineering, which shapes how I approach it: I tend to start from how a system actually runs, fails, and gets operated, and work back toward the code from there.
My focus is infrastructure as code and cloud architecture. Most of what I build now lives in version control as declarative infrastructure, reviewed the same way application changes are, with the same expectation that a change can be explained, previewed, and reversed.
Where I have worked
Ten years across security and compliance, manufacturing, software development, and DevOps. That breadth is deliberate — each of those domains has a different definition of "correct," and having to satisfy all of them makes the constraints of any one of them easier to see.
I have worked at nearly every company size, from AWS as a cloud engineer to three-person startups, and now Dekglas, which is one person if you are counting honestly. Large organizations teach you what systems look like at scale and how much process real reliability requires. Small ones teach you which parts of that process were actually load-bearing.
How I work
A few things I keep coming back to:
- Decisions get written down. Architecture decision records, kept next to the code they govern. The reasoning behind a choice outlives the choice, and the next person deserves to know why.
- Least privilege, actually. Short-lived scoped credentials over standing access. A deployment identity should be able to do its job and nothing adjacent to it.
- Cost-bounded by default. Infrastructure that quietly bills you is infrastructure you will eventually stop trusting. Defaults should be the cheap option; expense should be a deliberate, reviewed decision.
- Reversible beats clever. I would rather ship the boring thing I can roll back than the elegant thing I cannot.
Outside of work
I play guitar, read a lot of fiction — Michael Crichton more than anyone else — and try to stay active. I live in The Woodlands, Texas, with two cats who are unimpressed by all of the above.
